Hello & welcome!

This year I am going to share my m-learning travelling fun with you and hopefully meet some very cool people along the way!

A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step – Lao Tzu

I think this is one of the best ‘getting started’ quotes I’ve come across.
Whatever life throws at us, it needs to be started with something short and simple. You always need to start with one step at a time before a journey can be completed.
I hope our visit has shown this…

Before heading 6000miles to South Africa…

I had some idea of what our role would be and how we could deliver the idea of mobile learning to De Rust Futura. Ideas were buzzing from projects/, experiences and people I had worked with but…things change on the ground.
Of my experience of visiting schools/companies everything can move at a very fast pace the information needs to be right here right now and working asap. In some ways this is great that devices, another ‘tool’, can be added to the ‘pencil case’ or ‘tool box’ to help with teaching and learning.
Sometimes it’s easier to miss some steps and go straight for the finishing line but in reality we all need to adapt the pace to understand what, why and how to use this new technology in teaching and learning. It’s not very good reaching the end of your journey and not understanding anything - just means you got to go back and retrace your steps and your journey becomes longer.
At De Rust I loved every step forward that the school was making. Just by showing one function / idea at a pace the teachers and the students felt was right for them allowed them to get use to the idea of this new technology and how it could help them.
By the end of our trip the first few steps had been taken on De Rust Futura Academy’s journey.
